Recently, Chew attended President Donald Trump's inauguration on January 20, 2025, where he expressed gratitude to President Trump for lifting the U.S. ban on TikTok. 

Prior to joining TikTok, Shou Zi Chew served as CFO and later as President of International at Xiaomi, a Chinese electronics company. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from University College London and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

However, recent developments indicate that YouTube personality Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, is actively pursuing the acquisition of TikTok's U.S. operations. In a TikTok video, MrBeast announced he was en route via private jet to submit an official offer for the platform, expressing enthusiasm about potentially becoming its new CEO. 

This move comes in response to the U.S. government's decision to ban TikTok due to national security concerns, with the ban set to take effect on January 19, 2025. Despite efforts by ByteDance to appeal, the Supreme Court upheld the ban. In an attempt to keep the platform operational in the U.S., MrBeast has been in discussions with several billionaires to facilitate the purchase. 

While MrBeast's net worth is estimated at approximately $1 billion, the valuation of TikTok ranges between $20 billion and $100 billion, raising questions about the feasibility of his solo acquisition. Nonetheless, his initiative underscores the platform's significance and the interest of prominent figures in its continued presence in the U.S. market.
